If you look at the overall map of the Earth, you will notice that most of this planet is covered with water and the landmasses are like islands between different oceans. After the invention of the steamship, these vehicles spread across oceans and seas, transporting cargo and passengers between different points on the globe. This was not limited to steamships; various warships, boats, submarines, dhows, and more joined the fleet of marine vehicles. This caused heavy traffic on main sea routes and led to various collisions. Due to limited visibility at sea during the night, many marine vehicles collided, causing each other to sink. To solve this problem, in 1972 a convention was established that created a set of international rules for maritime navigation known as the “International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.” According to this convention, every type of marine vehicle must use specific types and arrangements of lights to be recognized from a distance and to prevent collisions between different vessels. There are various rules for encounters with different types of vessels that are valid worldwide and in all international waters. Usually, to work on ships and similar vehicles, it is necessary to pass an exam on these international rules. Today, we present an application that, in addition to teaching the lights and their arrangements for each vehicle, also offers various tests. COLREGs – Lights and shapes of vessels is an app for learning the lights and shapes of ships and marine vehicles, designed for the Android operating system, developed by the software group madeof.blue and released for free on Google Play. This app has a search engine where you can look up the shape and type of lights. Additionally, the presence of various cards makes learning these lights and their shapes easier. All vehicles are displayed in 3D and can be viewed from different angles. One of the most important features of this app is the ability to take tests and assess your knowledge.
